For the Capitals, who still have not lost with Langway out of the lineup, Yves Beaudoin, 20, will make NHL debut on defense. This will be first meeting of teams since Islanders eliminated Washington, three games to two, in first round of Stanley Cup playoffs last spring. Capitals are unbeaten in last three games.

Islanders hold 40-12-5 edge over Washington in regular-season play, although Capitals won four of seven a year ago. Mike Bossy, with five goals in eight games, is on target for ninth straight 50-goal season. Ari Erik Haanpaa, rookie left wing from Finland, had five-game assist streak broken in 3-2 loss to Los Angeles Tuesday.
