Ron Jaworski passed to wide receiver Mike Quick for a 99-yard touchdown 1:49 into overtime to give the Philadelphia Eagles a 23-17 victory over the Atlanta Falcons today.
The Eagles blew a 17-0 third-period lead before the winning pass play, the longest of the season in the NFL, brought them their fifth victory against five losses.
The Falcons won the toss in the extra period and elected to receive. But they were unable to move for a first down, and Rick Donnelly punted out of bounds at the Philadelphia one.
On second down, Jaworski threw to Quick, who caught the ball behind the secondary at the 30.
"I knew if the guy on the outside didn't get me, I had a chance to go all the way," Quick said. "I felt a hand coming, but it wasn't enough to slow me up, and I was off to the races after that."
The Falcons (1-9) had scored 17 points in the fourth period to tie the game with 2:32 remaining.
Atlanta's first touchdown came on an 18-yard pass play from Dave Archer to running back Joe Washington, 2:41 into the fourth quarter.
