Bill Hartack, 52, a Hall of Fame jockey, has been hired as a state steward at Tampa Bay Downs, where he was an apprentice jockey 33 years ago. He has been a patrol judge at several California tracks for the past four years. OBITUARY

Dave Cichoke, a sophomore linebacker at Santa Clara (Calif.) University, was found dead of a brain hemorrhage in his room Monday. He came out of Saturday's game with Cal State-Northridge complaining of dizziness, but was evaluated at a hospital and released. COLLEGES

Georgetown -- FB Greg Mazur (133 yards rushing, two touchdowns) was named to ECAC South honor roll for his performance in 31-28 victory over St. John's. Ohio State -- TB Keith Byars, still recovering from a broken foot, probably will sit out Saturday's game with Wisconsin. Wyoming -- Announced Al Kincaid (28-28 overall, 2-7 this season) will be replaced as football coach at the end of the season.
