Craig James became the 10th runner to get 100 yards against Detroit this year as the New England Patriots beat the Lions, 23-6, in an NFL game today.
James' 115 yards on 26 carries gave him 1,027 yards this season. He is only the fourth Patriots player to rush for more than 1,000.
The Patriots have won eight of their last nine games and will play the Dolphins in Miami next Monday night in a game that could decide the AFC East title and playoff berths. The Patriots, Dolphins and New York Jets are tied at 10-4.
James said he is glad the Dolphins beat the Packers today, "because I don't want to play any team next week that's second-best. It was tough to keep our minds off Miami."
The Lions (7-7) lost their seventh straight road game and their hopes for an NFC wild-card spot dwindled. Their quarterback, Eric Hipple, twisted his left knee early in the fourth quarter.
"We didn't do anything well," Coach Darryl Rogers said. "We didn't execute and we lost our poise at the end of the game."
Center Guy Morriss of the Patriots was ejected in the third quarter for pushing an official. Linebacker Steve Nelson of the Patriots and tackle Lomas Brown of the Lions were ejected in the fourth quarter for fighting.
