The Illinois Athletic Commission plans to widen its probe of a Dec. 14 fight after one of the fighters stated he intentionally lost the bout. Francis Sargent of Peoria, Ill., said over the weekend that he threw the fight against Craig Bodzianowski, who lost his right foot in a motorcycle accident 18 months ago. But Sargent changed his story late Sunday, telling a television interviewer he did not throw the fight, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Sargent, who is black, said over the weekend he received racial insults and threats that made him fear for his life and the life of his wife, Josephine. "I'm embarrassed for what I did, but I was scared. They told me they were going to kill me if I didn't lose," Sargent said . . .
