Mount St. Mary's defeated the University of the District of Columbia tonight, 71-57, when Coach Wil Jones took the Firebirds off the court late in the game in protest of six technical fouls assessed his team in the second period.
With 7:32 left, he removed his players after the sixth technical, three of them against him. Then several scuffles broke out between Firebirds players and the fans.
UDC had led, 41-34, at the half, but Mount St. Mary's scored the first 12 points of the second period. With 11:52 remaining and the Mountaineers ahead, 52-47, Lyndon DeBellotte was called for a technical foul. Jones was immediately assessed two more technicals. Mark Scallion then made five straight foul shots as Mount St. Mary's took a 57-47 lead.
Finally, with 7:32, and UDC trailing, 71-57, Johnny Gantt of UDC was called for a technical. Jones then got his third and pulled his team from the court in frustration.
Timothy Stanfil led the Firebirds with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. UDC dropped to 7-6.
Mount St. Mary's was led by Paul Edwards 23 points. Mark Scallion had 18.

Sophomore Jimmy Andrakakos had 10 rebounds and a career-high 33 points to lead the Griffins (3-11) over the Pioneers (8-4) at Arundel. Gallaudet 69, Mount St. Vincent's 58:
Junior forward David Hamilton scored 25 points to lead the Bison (4-8) over the Owls (3-9) at Gallaudet. Freshman guard Richard Jacobs had 14 points as the Bison won their third straight game.
