Reserve guard William Stuart scored a career-high 18 points to lead Howard to a 65-56 victory over Bethune-Cookman in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game tonight.

Howard has won 10 straight and is 12-5 overall and 6-0 in the MEAC.

After Fred Hill committed his fourth foul midway through the first half, Stuart came in and scored 11 points to help Howard to a 27-25 lead by intermission.

Howard needed him again in the second half because the Wildcats took a 37-36 lead. Again he rallied his team, scoring with 13:00 left to give Howard the lead, 38-37.

But the Wildcats' center, Don Hill (10 points), scored eight straight points. Stuart and reserves Jeff Williams (eight second-half points) and Earl Smith (eight second-half points) put Howard ahead again. Stuart finished with six assists.

"To win on the road, you have to have a decent bench," said Howard Coach A.B. Williamson. "Our starters got into some foul trouble but Stuart, Jeff Williams and Earl Smith all came in and did an outstanding job. I thought Stuart particularly had a fine game."

Bethune-Cookman is 5-15 overall and 4-6 in the MEAC.
