Maryland will play North Carolina State at 3 p.m. Saturday in the opening round of the Atlantic Coast Conference women's basketball tournament in Fayetteville, N.C.

Maryland is seeded fifth with a 14-12 overall record, 6-8 in the ACC. The fourth-seeded Wolfpack is 18-9 and 9-5.

Top-seeded Virginia (25-1 and 13-1) will play Georgia Tech (10-15, 1-13) at 1 p.m. No. 2 seed North Carolina (20-7, 10-4) will play Clemson (11-15, 4-10) at 6. Duke (20-6, 9-5) tests Wake Forest (15-12, 4-10) at 8.

UDC, at home, beat Maryland-Eastern Shore, 100-68, as Tracy Walton had 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Arlinda Page 17 points and six steals; Howard (15-10, 10-3 MEAC) lost, 78-48, to South Carolina State (20-4, 12-1) at Orangeburg S.C.; George Washington lost at Massachusetts, 67-57, despite 20 points and 10 rebounds for GW substitute Gloria Murphy; Freshman Kelly Lane, with 26 points, passed the American University single-season scoring record as AU won, 85-67, at William and Mary; and Longwood beat Catholic, 72-64, at Farmville, Va., despite 27 points by Lisa Kellaher for CU.
