Kevin Willis scored a career-high 39 points and grabbed 21 rebounds last night in Atlanta as the Hawks dominated the boards in a 128-116 NBA victory over the Denver Nuggets.

Willis, who had 14 of Atlanta's 31 offensive rebounds, scored 23 points after a 69-69 halftime tie. The Hawks outrebounded the Nuggets, 63-41, in winning their 13th straight at home.

Bobby Jones, starting for injured Julius Erving, scored four of his 14 points in the final 1:24 as Philadelphia won in Indianapolis. Gene Banks and Orlando Woolridge combined for 35 second-half points to lead Chicago over visiting New Jersey and give Coach Stan Albeck his 300th NBA victory. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scored 19 points and the Lakers ran off 17 straight points in the first quarter to win at home in Inglewood, Calif. Reggie Theus scored 22 of his 33 points in the first 14 minutes of play in Sacramento to lead the Kings over San Antonio. Theus also had 10 of his 18 assists during that 14-minute span. San Antonio lost its ninth in 10 games despite 31 points from Mike Mitchell.
