St. Louis Cardinals-New York Mets -- Yesterday's game rained out and rescheduled as part of a doubleheader Aug. 17. It was the second consecutive rainout for the teams. Wednesday's game was rescheduled as part of a twi-night doubleheader Aug. 14.

Chicago White Sox -- Placed 1B Greg Walker (fractured wrist) on the 15-day disabled list; recalled OF Rodney Craig from Buffalo. STADIA

St. Louis Cardinals -- NFL team reached an agreement in principle to buy an option on 100 acres of land in west St. Louis County that has been proposed as the site of a domed stadium. COLLEGES

George Washington -- Honored 2B Kevin Fitzgerald, who hit .430 last season and a school record 13 home runs, as Outstanding Senior Athlete at the Colonial Club's 28th annual Sports Awards Banquet at the D.C. Marriott. Most valuable players for the 1985-86 school year included: Gregg Ritchie, baseball; Troy Webster, basketball; Charlie Brown, crew; Ken Dickler, golf; John Menditto, soccer; Bill Karasinski, swimming; Dan Rosner, tennis; Ron Abrams, water polo, and Billy Marshall, wrestling.

Virginia -- DB Kevin Gould, FB Antonio Rice and LB-DE Sean Scott have been elected tri-captains of the 1986 football team.

Auburn -- Bo Jackson, outfielder and all-America running back, was named winner of the Tanqueray Award for excellence in amateur sports. He will receive the award June 10 in New York.

Delaware State -- Named John C. Martin of Fisk University to replace Nelson Townsend as athletic director. Townsend recently accepted a like position with Florida A&M.
