Shortstop Ricky Jones hit two bases-loaded doubles and drove in four runs to lead Rochester of the Class AAA International League to a 7-4 exhibition victory over its parent team, the Baltimore Orioles, tonight at Silver Stadium.
The Orioles were shut out on two hits until the ninth. Finally, Larry Sheets' bases-loaded one-out double scored Juan Bonilla and Jackie Gutierrez to break up the shutout. Baltimore used only minor league pitchers.
*Cardinals 5, Giants 4: In San Francisco, Jerry White and Vince Coleman drove in runs for St. Louis in the 12th inning and the Cardinals ended a seven-game losing streak.
St. Louis' runs in the 12th were unearned because Mark Davis (1-1) booted a bunt. The Giants got a run in the 12th off Greg Bargar and had the bases loaded before Pat Perry got Dan Gladden on a long fly.
Terry Pendleton opened the 12th with a single off Davis. Tom Lawless and Ozzie Smith sacrificed, with Lawless reaching on Davis' error. White then flied to right to break the tie, and Coleman's infield single scored Lawless.
*Dodgers 2, Pirates 1: Fernando Valenzuela (3-1) pitched a six-hitter and benefited when opponent Bob Kipper balked home a run in the fourth inning in Los Angeles.
Mike Marshall had an RBI single in the sixth as the Dodgers, who took a team average of .213 into the game, totaled only four hits.
Valenzuela lost his shutout in the eighth when Sid Bream doubled and scored on Lee Mazzilli's groundout.
*Cubs 4, Padres 3: In San Diego, the Padres took a 3-1 lead into the eighth, then Chicago's Bob Dernier homered. Next time up, in the ninth against Goose Gossage (2-1), he doubled home two runs that won the game.
The Cubs' shortstop, Shawon Dunston, hurt his left wrist making a tag in the seventh inning and was taken to a hospital for X-rays.
