Iowa State -- Tennis player Greg Beers was charged Thursday with involuntary manslaughter and drunken driving in a two-car crash June 5 that killed tennis coach Jim Doerr. Beers, 20, of Scarborough, Ontario, faces up to five years in prison if convicted. Kansas City Chiefs -- A federal jury convicted DE Mike Bell and his twin brother Mark on drug charges. Mike Bell was found guilty of two felony counts of using a telephone to try to buy cocaine on May 2, 1985, and one misdemeanor count of attempting to possess cocaine. Mark Bell was convicted of one felony and one misdemeanor. Sentencing is set for July 31.
Tour de Suisse -- Italian cyclists Giancarlo Perini, Claudio Chiapucci and Orlando Maini were injured when a motorist ignored a police barrier and drove head-on into a pack of racers in Murten, Switzerland.
James Ferrier, winner of the 1947 PGA Tournament, died of heart failure at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, Calif. He was 71.
