Pete Rose hit a two-out triple off the glove of right fielder Glenn Wilson in the bottom of the 11th inning to score Wade Rowdon and give the Cincinnati Reds a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies last night.
The Reds scored three unearned runs off reliever Steve Bedrosian in the ninth to send the game into extra innings.
In the 11th, Max Venable drew a one-out walk from Tom Gorman (0-1), but Rowdon forced him at second. Rose, batting right-handed, then hit a line drive into the right center field gap that glanced off Wilson's glove as the right fielder fell trying to make the catch.
Mets 13, Astros 2: In Houston, Darryl Strawberry hit a three-run double in a seven-run seventh inning as New York handed Nolan Ryan (6-7) his first loss in four appearances since he came off the disabled list.
Winner Bob Ojeda (11-2) allowed four hits and one unearned run in six innings.
The Mets, who have won 14 of their last 18 games, have outscored their opponents, 41-3, during their current five-game winning streak. Their 13 runs last night were a season high for them.
Giants 6, Cubs 4: In Chicago, pitcher Vida Blue and Randy Kutcher homered and Jose Uribe drove in two runs to lift San Francisco to its third straight win.
Blue (7-4) allowed two hits, walked two and struck out one before turning a 5-1 lead over to the bullpen in the sixth.
Expos 4, Braves 2: Floyd Youmans (10-5) allowed four hits in seven innings and struck out nine as Montreal handed visiting Atlanta its fifth straight defeat.
Padres 2, Pirates 1: Lance McCullers held the Pirates to four hits in seven innings to earn his first major league victory as San Diego won in Pittsburgh.
