GLEN BURNIE, MD., MAY 30 -- Eleanor Roosevelt and Severna Park easily won their Maryland Class AA semifinal girls softball games today at Upton Field.

Roosevelt (17-3) scored in every inning to defeat Northwestern (16-5) in a 13-3 rout.

Roosevelt, leading by 1-0 in the second, scored five runs. Laurie Carper singled and moved to second on a walk to Cheryl Strafella. Both advanced when teammate Niki Buemi struck out.

Carper scored from third on a wild pitch; Strafella advanced to third. On the next play, Strafella scored on a balk by pitcher Wendy Wimbrow. Patty Crisman and Cindy Lenart both walked and Jenny Sokol doubled them home for a 5-0 lead. Sokol scored on a throwing error.

In the second AA game, Nikki Jones of Gaithersburg walked 10 batters, helping Severna Park (17-5) score 12 runs in the first inning and win, 19-2. Gaithersburg finished the season 13-5.

In Class A, Chesapeake scored the only run in the first inning for a 1-0 victory over Lansdowne.

Paint Branch's Beth Egan allowed no earned runs and only two hits in a 3-1 victory over La Plata.

In Class B, Damascus' Donna Graziano broke a 3-3 tie in the eighth inning with a double for a 4-3 victory over Mount Hebron.

Wendy Herd had two RBI to help Northeast of Anne Arundel County beat North East of Cecil County, 3-2.
