Armbro Feather upset champion Halcyon and Jolibea Hanover defeated favored New Creation to win divisions of the $243,000 Turtle Dove Stakes for 3-year-old pacing fillies at Freestate Raceway last night in Laurel. Time Well Spent, a 7-to-5 choice, took the other division.

Each division carried a purse of $81,000.

Driven and trained by John Kopas, Armbro Feather ($7) surprised driver Ray Remmen and Halcyon at the three-quarter-mile pole by gaining the lead on the outside.

Halcyon, last year's 2-year-old filly champion, rallied, but Armbro Feather was too strong and won in 1:58 2/5 for the mile on a sloppy track. Midi A Semalu closed for second, 2 3/4 lengths back. Halcyon faded to third, another quarter-length behind.

Time Well Spent, who finished second in several major stakes last year, easily passed race leaders in the stretch to win in 1:58 2/5.

Going into the final turn, Time Well Spent started her rally three wide and rolled to a 3 1/2-length victory over Land Of Roses, also driven by Remmen. Shop Till Ya Drop, driven by Mike Gagliardi, recovered from an early break to take third.

Quille Lauxmont, driven by Ed Tracey, showed little pace toward the finish and faded to take sixth, 5 1/2 lengths behind the winner.

In the second division, Jolibea Hanover and driver Ted Wing upset 2-to-5 race favorite New Creation, driven by Steve Warrington, to win by a neck in 1:59 1/5.

After giving up the lead at the half-mile mark, Jolibea Hanover sat in the pocket behind New Creation until the stretch. Wing then moved his filly out and by the tiring New Creation.
