BALTIMORE, JULY 11 -- Spectacular Bev made a powerful move through the stretch to win the $39,500 second division of the Summer Guest Stakes at Pimlico today by 2 1/2 lengths over Ice Devise. Heartleaf held well for third, a neck back.

Said winning jockey Mike Hunter: "Once we got clear, she was just eating them up like Pac-Man through the stretch."

Spectacular Bev, a gray daughter of Spectacular Bid, won her second added-money race on the turf. Last year, she accounted for the Bold Princess Stakes at Belmont Park.

Today, she earned $25,675 after running the 1 1/16 miles over a firm course in 1:42 1/5. She paid $5.80.

In the $39,325 first half of the Summer Guest, Fortunate Facts became the 12th stakes winner for apprentice Kent Desormeaux, a record for apprentice jockeys.

Fortunate Facts came from behind in the final yards to edge away from Moms Birthday under strong urging. Angelina County was third, two lengths behind Moms Birthday.

The well-bred daughter of Sir Ivor paid $6.60. Her running time was 1:43 2/5, more than a second slower than that of Spectacular Bev.

"She's an awful expensive filly {$350,000 yearling}," said trainer James Murphy.
