Elvis Franks, a Los Angeles Raiders defensive end, was arrested on a charge of possessing cocaine with intent to distribute, allegedly having tried to sell to an undercover FBI agent.

Franks, 30, a 1980-84 Cleveland Brown, was arrested near his suburban Cleveland home. Officers confiscated about 10 ounces of a substance believed to be cocaine. Franks appeared before a U.S. magistrate, who set a $50,000 personal recognizance bond and an Aug. 10 preliminary hearing . . .

Chicago Bears Coach Mike Ditka is saying again that if William Perry is overweight by Aug. 1 he can't come into camp.

"You can book this: If his weight is not under 325, he will not be at Platteville {Wis., training camp site}," Ditka said. "He can go back to South Carolina and do whatever the hell he wants to do . . ."

Ditka said Perry told the club he weighed 325 recently, but Ditka was skeptical: "He said he was running twice a day. He runs from the refrigerator to the bathroom."
