The flood-plagued, rain-delayed Western Open in Oak Brook, Ill., will be played on two courses, if it ever begins, officials decided.
The first nine holes will be played on the Oak Brook Golf Club, a municipal course adjacent to the prestigious Butler National Golf Club, the traditional site of the tournament.
The second nine holes will be played at Butler, where a good part of the layout was under water after torrential rains in the Chicago suburbs last week. To make matters more bizarre, the first nine holes will be played on the back nine at Oak Brook, and the last nine on Butler's front nine.
The tournament was scheduled to start Thursday, then put off to yesterday because of the flooding. It was pushed back to Saturday after thunderstorms hit the area yesterday morning, and reduced to 54 holes. Today's start is uncertain because of the threat of more rain . . .
