Toronto Blue Jays -- Promoted 2B Nelson Liriano from Syracuse; released LHP Gary Lavelle. Pittsburgh Pirates -- Activated SS Felix Fermin from the disabled list and assigned him to Harrisburg of the Class A Eastern League. Mexican League -- Nelson Barrera's 10th-inning grand slam gave the Mexico City Red Devils a 12-8 victory in Mexico City and, with it, the Mexican Baseball League 1987 championship over Nuevo Laredo, four games to one. The Red Devils were trailing, 6-4, when the fifth game in the best-of-seven series was suspended Monday night in the eighth inning because of rain. When the game resumed yesterday, the Red Devils scored three times in the bottom of the eighth. But Nuevo Laredo scored once in the ninth to tie the game and once in the top of the 10th to go ahead before Barrera's homer gave the Red Devils their ninth league championship. Reliever Kurt Kepshire got the victory.
