Miami football Coach Jimmy Johnson and Athletic Director Sam Jankovich are considering leaving the school for personal and career objectives, a newspaper reported.

Johnson, 43, is considering seeking a job with an NFL team, The Miami Herald reported, quoting unidentified sources.

"I do not plan on coaching college football anywhere besides Miami," Johnson said. "I have had an interest in professional football. I'm interested. But right now, all I'm interested in is getting ready for Florida {Saturday}."

West Virginia's starting quarterback, Major Harris, was cleared of resisting arrest and other charges after prosecutors failed to produce evidence or witnesses against him at a hearing in Pittsburgh.

Harris, 19, has filed police brutality charges with the Office of Professional Responsibility of Pittsburgh's Public Safety Department, claiming he suffered head injuries that required nine stitches during his June 28 arrest . . .

Northwestern basketball coach Bill Foster announced the signing of Walker Lambiotte, a 6-7, 203-pound forward-guard from Woodstock, Va., to a national letter of intent. Lambiotte, who played the past two seasons at North Carolina State, will become eligible for the 1988-89 season . . .

Bob Kullen, hockey coach at the University of New Hampshire, received a heart transplant during the weekend. Kullen, 37, who suffered from a rare heart disease, became a candidate for a transplant Wednesday and a donor became available Saturday. The transplant took place that night . . .

Richard Jay Curl has been named swimming coach for both the men's and women's program at Maryland. Curl, who operates the Curl Swim Club in Darnestown since 1978, replaced Charles Hoffman.
