Friendly tailback Sean Flowers, who missed the last two games with a sore neck, raced 89 yards with a kickoff return for a touchdown late in the final period to give his team an upset, 23-21 victory over 10th-ranked Oxon Hill in a Prince George's AA League game yesterday at Oxon Hill.

Seconds earlier, the Clippers (4-1), who were beset by penalties throughout the game, had wrapped up a 47-yard drive, scoring what appeared to be the winning touchdown against their archrivals. On a fourth and goal at the Friendly 2, Clippers running back Kenny Ford stretched his 6-foot-4 frame over the goal line to put the hosts up, 20-17. Darren Huckaby's extra-point kick gave the Clippers a four-point lead with five minutes remaining.

But Oxon Hill, which had bounced back from a 14-0 deficit, may have celebrated a bit too soon. Following Ford's score, the kickoff went to Flowers in the middle of the field. Flowers started upfield, saw a crack to his right, picked up two nice blocks and followed a convoy of blockers to the end zone for the winning points. The kick was no good but the Patriots (3-2) were ahead, 23-21.

Oxon Hill drove from its own 33 to the Patriots 32 on its next possession. On a third-and-two play, Todd Mizukawa threw to Huckaby, who fought his way to the 19 for an apparent first down with less than two minutes to play. But the Clippers were called for an illegal man downfield, their 11th penalty of the game, nullifying the big gain. The penalty includes a loss of down and the Clippers now faced a fourth and seven at the 37. Mizukawa threw incomplete and the visitors took possession and ran out the clock.

"We didn't tackle well in the second half. But give Oxon Hill credit, they kept making the big plays, kept making the big plays," Patriots Coach Jim Crawford said. "We'd get them in the hole, stretch them to fourth down and they'd make another big play. But this was the first real game we've played this year."

Friendly got off to a good start, stopping a certain Clippers touchdown on Oxon Hill's initial possession and scoring twice within 30 seconds to take its early 14-0 advantage.Friendly (3-2) 0 14 3 6 23 Oxon Hill (4-1) 0 6 0 15 21
