After weeks of having problems fielding a team, Spingarn played its first game last night and lost to Theodore Roosevelt, 28-0, in an Interhigh West Division game at Spingarn.

It was the first win this season for the Rough Riders (1-3).

"I am pleased that we were able to show up, but I am not pleased with their performance," said Spingarn Coach Mike Johnson.

At one point this summer, the Green Wave had only six players at practice, forcing Johnson to cancel games and scrimmages.

Spingarn now has 31 players on the roster. "I think our performance was good for the first time playing, but it could have been better," said Green Wave captain Alexander Hampshire. "We came out and played hard, tough football. Next week we will be much improved."

Roosevelt, playing with three games experience, caused an interception and a fumble that led to two scores in the first quarter. After the first Spingarn turnover, Leroy West ran 10 yards for a touchdown.

Later in the quarter, after another Spingarn turnover, Jonathan Gleaton ran two yards for a score and a 14-0 margin.T. Roosevelt (1-3) 14 6 0 8 28 Spingarn (0-1) 0 0 0 0 0
