Cardozo established its running game early and went on to defeat Ballou, 12-8, yesterday in an Interhigh League game at Cardozo.

The Clerks shut down Ballou's highly regarded wide receiver Tre Everett, holding him to two receptions for 55 yards. Linebacker Maurice Williams led Cardozo with 14 tackles.

Five minutes into the game, Ballou scored a safety when a high snap on a punt went out of the end zone. From that point on it was all Cardozo as quarterback Allan Johnson connected on 15 of 31 passes for 187 yards.

On a third-and-six play in the second quarter, Johnson rolled left on an option play and ran 17 yards for the score. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the first half ended 6-2.

Ballou's first drive of the second half proved critical as defensive back Chris Plater intercepted a pass and returned it to the Ballou 18. Two plays later, Rendell McCree went up the middle for a one-yard score.

Ballou's touchdown came with 8:04 left in the game as Kieta Malloy caught a 37-yard pass.Ballou (3-3) 2 0 0 6 8 Cardozo (2-3) 0 6 6 0 12
