For the second time in three weeks, Seneca Valley left the outcome of its game to the capable feet of senior John Duke. And for the second time this season, he delivered.

With six seconds to play, he kicked a 25-yard field goal to lift the fifth-ranked Screaming Eagles over 10th-ranked Springbrook, 17-14, in a dramatic Montgomery AA League game yesterday at Springbrook.

The visitors (6-0) got their big chance when they forced a punt and took over at the host's 45 with less than three minutes remaining. Matt Kastantin found John Lalos for a 23-yard gain to the Blue Devils' 22-yard line. Four more running plays netted 14 yards and set up Duke's kick.

Duke, whose 27-yard field goal beat Churchill earlier this year, was a little unnerved by Springbrook's ploy of calling three consecutive timeouts just before his winning effort.

"A dream come true," said Duke, who missed a late field goal in a one-point loss to the Blue Devils last year. "When Springbrook was calling those timeouts, I kept hearing the {Springbrook} fans yelling, "Choke, choke." I got a little nervous. I always fantasized in practice, we would be down two points and I would kick the winning field goal. I felt I could make this one."

As pleased as Screaming Eagles Coach Al Thomas was with Duke's heroics, he felt the game should have not come down to the last seconds.

With the score tied at 14, Seneca Valley reached the Springbrook 4- and 5-yard lines on consecutive possessions in the third period but could not score.

The Eagles relied on finesse to score their first touchdowns. Wingback Ricky Davis ran 56, 52, and 46-yard runs off reverses, the first two leading to the scores, the last one helping his team reach the 4.

Davis' first run of 56 yards came on Seneca Valley's first play from scrimmage and set up first and goal from the 1. John Joppy scored from there.

Taking over at its 29, Davis went 52 yards to the Springbrook 19. Five plays later, Kastantin passed to Shane Henson in the back of the end zone for a four-yard touchdown. The kick provided a 14-0 lead with 1:39 to play in the first period.

Springbrook bounced back to tie the game. Chris Santy scored on a 14-yard run up the middle to end an 80-yard, 13-play drive with 8:10 left in the second period.Seneca Valley (6-0) 14 0 0 3 17 Springbrook (5-1) 0 14 0 0 14
