Nose guard Jonathan Streat recovered Dax Nelson's fumble with 1:21 remaining to preserve Cardozo's 14-8 Interhigh League West Division victory and spoil McKinley's homecoming.

The Trainers had a first and goal at the Cardozo 7 with 1:25 left. Nelson tried to pitch to Tony Parks (15 carries, 99 yards), but the ball slipped from his hands and Streat recovered.

The Clerks (4-3, 2-1 in Interhigh play) ran out the clock after the fumble.

"The quarterback {Nelson} tried to pitch the ball out and he didn't get it to the running back," said Streat.

Said Nelson: "It seems that he {Parks} ran too far away from me."

Cardozo scored with 5:50 left when Allen Johnson (eight of 20, 88 yards) avoided a heavy rush, rolled to his right and threw 14 yards to Mike Okoro for a 14-8 lead.

"It was a sprintout to the weak side," said Johnson, who rushed seven times for 34 yards. "My receiver, Mike Okoro, ran a great pattern."

Two personal foul penalties on McKinley (3-5, 1-2) led to the touchdown. The first personal foul call against McKinley came after a two-point conversion by Parks had tied the score, 8-8. On the previous play, Parks scored on a seven-yard run.

The Trainers kicked off from their 35 and Louis Beamon returned the ball to the McKinley 31.

The officials called another personal foul on McKinley during the runback, giving Cardozo a first down at the 16. Four plays later, Johnson threw the touchdown pass to Okoro.

But McKinley moved quickly to get in scoring position. Faced with a fourth and 19 at his 41, backup quarterback Joseph White threw a swing pass to Marcus Thomas, who threw a 21-yard pass to Ricky Jenkins for a first down.

A pass interference call then gave the Trainers a first down at Cardozo's 7, setting up Nelson's fumble. Cardozo (4-3) 8 0 0 6 14 McKinley (3-5) 0 0 0 8 8
