Donnell Newman returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown to get Gallaudet off to an 18-6 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson-Madison yesterday at Hotchkiss Field. It was Gallaudet's eighth victory, the first time since 1898 that it had won that many.

Gallaudet (8-1) didn't complete any passes, but Carl White ran for two touchdowns. His 46 yards gave him 1,040 in nine games.

Georgetown 34, St. John's 21:

Matt Zebrowski threw for 200 yards and four touchdowns in leading the Hoyas (5-2-1) to victory at Georgetown. Dean Lowry became GU's leading career rusher by gaining 137 yards. He scored twice.

Catholic 45, St. Francis (Pa.) 0:

Robert Narh rushed 107 yards and Keith Harris 109 yards to lead Catholic's homecoming rout. The Cardinals (3-6) set school records for yards in a game with 585 and rushing yards in a game with 293.

Bowie State 27, Livingstone 2:

Bowie, last in the CIAA in total offense before the game, rushed for 316 yards in a homecoming victory. Andre Cook rushed 79 yards.

Chowan 27, Montgomery 24:

In Murfreesboro, N.C., Chowan rallies from a 21-7 halftime deficit. Montgomery outgained Chowan, 382 to 292 yards, but was penalized 188 yards, to 80 for Chowan.

Fayetteville State 42, UDC 8:

UDC ended its season 0-9 in Fayetteville, N.C. A UDC spokesman said the school plans to play football next season but with more funding.
