New England Patriots -- LB Steve Nelson, a mainstay for the team since coming out of North Dakota State as a second-round draft pick in 1974, announced he will retire at the end of the season, his 14th in the NFL.New York Jets -- Activated DT Joe Klecko from physically-unable-to-perform list and said he will start Sunday against Kansas City.

BASKETBALL Utah Jazz -- C Darryl Dawkins was reactivated after an eight-day suspension without pay. He left the team last Saturday after the death of his estranged wife. Indianapolis Pacers -- Placed veteran C/F Herb Williams on injured list with severe contusion to lower left leg. He was injured in first quarter of Tuesday's game with Detroit.
