Substitute Vinnie Johnson, who likes to play well against the 76ers, scored 23 points in the first half to get the Detroit Pistons off to a 113-94 rout last night in Philadelphia.
His 16 points in the second quarter sent the Pistons to the locker room with a 55-53 lead.
"We double-team him," Coach Matt Guokas of the 76ers said. "I don't know if we can triple-team him. We've tried a lot of things over the years and nothing works."
The 76ers were within 57-56 when Detroit went on a 23-8 run, Bill Laimbeer getting 10 of the points.
Bulls 103, Nets 85:
In Chicago, Michael Jordan's 36 points helped the Bulls (4-0) to their best start in their 22 seasons.
They trailed by 25-23 after the first period, but Jordan scored 12 straight points in the second quarter. The Bulls led at the half, 51-38.
Celtics 128, Cavaliers 114:
In Boston, Larry Bird scored 34 points, Danny Ainge 28 and Dennis Johnson 23, enabling the Celtics to go 5-0 this season. They are 23-0 in Boston Garden against the Cavaliers since 1978.
The Cavaliers shocked them, though, with a 22-6 run that started late in the first period. The Celtics narrowed an 11-point deficit to 64-58 at halftime, then survived a rally that gave the Cavaliers a 74-64 lead.
Helped by rookie Mark Acres, who scored eight points in the last period, the Celtics pulled away from a 104-104 tie on Johnson's 16-footer with about seven minutes to go.
SuperSonics 103, Mavericks 95:
Dale Ellis got seven points during a late 12-0 spurt that clinched the game in Dallas.
Seattle's defense allowed no points for 5:38 of the last period, turning a 90-89 lead into a 102-89 margin. The sellout crowd in Reunion Arena booed the Mavericks.
Jazz 109, Suns 92:
Karl Malone scored 23 points and John Stockton had 13 points and 12 assists in the victory in Salt Lake City.
With Phoenix leading by 34-32, Malone, Stockton and Darrell Griffith led Utah on a 21-3 streak.
Clippers 97, Warriors 94:
Mike Woodson scored 15 of his 33 points in the third quarter in Inglewood, Calif., and teammate Reggie Williams had 20 points.
