Fairmont Heights got a touchdown from Jeff Turner and a converson kick from Eric Myers in the second quarter, held off several scoring threats by Forestville and defeated the Knights, 7-6, in a Maryland Class B football quarterfinal yesterday at Fairmont Heights.

The Hornets (10-1) will play South Garrett in a Class B semifinal game Saturday at Fairmont Heights. Forestville finished the season 8-3.

Although its offense sputtered, Forestville had a chance to win late in the game. Starting at their 36-yard line with two minutes left, the Knights drove to Fairmont Heights' 29 with the aid of two penalties that set up first downs.

However, quarterback Marquis Harper's passes to Leslie Shepherd in the end zone fell incomplete, leaving Shepherd to attempt a 46-yard field goal. His kick was short.

The Knights took a 6-0 lead when Dennis Jenkins returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. Jenkins sped up the middle and then cut down the left sideline. The extra point attempt was blocked by Bo Hillian.

"We were worried mostly about their counters," said Fairmont Heights' Cory Williams, who intercepted two passes and broke up several others. "We were willing to give up the pass underneath and I would play deep {on Shepherd}."

Despite gaining just 157 yards total offense, Fairmont Heights fared much better with the ball, taking advantage of good field position for most of game.

Turner (77 yards rushing on 14 carries) led an effective ground game for the Hornets. His three-yard run with 4:46 left in the second quarter finished an eight-play, 22-yard drive that tied the game before Myers made the winning kick. Forestville (8-3) 6 0 0 0 6 Fairmont Heights (10-1) 0 7 0 0 7
