It will be Montgomery County rivals Seneca Valley and Springbrook playing for the Maryland AA High School football championship this Friday at the University of Maryland's Byrd Stadium.
They will meet at 7 p.m. following the Class C title game between Milford Mill (12-0) and Harve de Grace (11-1). Playoff tickets are $4 and gates open at 3 p.m.
Springbrook (11-1) comes into the game following a 10-6 victory Saturday night over Severna Park. The Blue Devils lost, 17-14, in a regular season game to the Screaming Eagles, but have tradition on their side. This will be Springbrook's sixth appearance in the state final since 1979 and the Blue Devils already have four titles. Last year, Springbrook lost to county rival Gaithersburg, 28-14, in the final.
Seneca Valley, one of three area teams still unbeaten (12-0), will be playing for its first AA crown. The school previously has won A and B titles.
On Saturday, Fairmont Heights (11-1) will meet Walkersville (11-1) in the B championship at 4 and Laurel (11-1) goes against Linganore (11-1) in the A title game at 7 at Byrd.
In the Virginia AAA regional championship round, in Northern Region games, Annandale (8-3) plays T.C. Williams (11-0) in Division 6 Saturday at 1:30 at W.T. Woodson. Fairfax (8-3) plays host to Marshall (10-1) at 1:30 Friday.
In the Northwest Region, Woodbridge (9-2) plays Fauquier (9-2) in Division 6 and Courtland (10-1) travels to E.C. Glass (11-0) in 8 p.m. Friday games.
And the annual Interhigh championship game will be played at 11 Thanksgiving Day at Howard University, between East champion H.D. Woodson (8-1) and West playoff winner Coolidge (5-4).
