Fauquier stunned Woodbridge with three long touchdown runs in the first half and the Falcons won the Northwestern Region Division 6 championship last night at Fauquier, 28-0.

The victory was Fauquier's fifth straight and it gave the school its first region title in 16 years. The Falcons will meet Eastern Region champion Hampton (a 30-0 winner over Kempsville) next Saturday at Fauquier in a state semifinal.

The Falcons (10-2) rushed for 212 yards in the first half. Halfback Dwight Robinson rushed for 61 of the yards, including a 29-yard first-quarter score that came on fourth down and seven. Robinson took the snap while standing beside quarterback Bart Zopp for the second straight play, and cut down the right sideline for a 6-0 lead.

"The formation goes into a box and I just take the snap from the center while Bart {Zopp} tries to draw the defense the other way," said Robinson of his scoring play. "We ran the same play on third down but the exchange wasn't good."

Less than three minutes later, Zopp took advantage of the same formation. The quarterback kept it himself, rolling left and cutting back right for a 42-yard score and a 12-0 lead with 4:38 left in the opening quarter.

Woodbridge won the toss, but elected to kick off. Robinson's touchdown capped a nine-play opening drive, the first of four straight scores.

With Woodbridge forced to abandon the running game, the Fauquier defense pressured quarterback John Milhiser into an interception and trapped him in the backfield eight times for 58 yards in losses. Milhiser managed to complete eight of 17 attempts for 117 yards, but the Vikings' deepest penetration was the Fauquier 33 with eight minutes to play in the game.

After William Hamm's sack of Milhiser, Woodbridge had to punt. Fauquier marched 70 yards in just six plays. On the first play of the second quarter, Carlton Raymond broke four tackles and went 42 yards to make it 18-0.Woodbridge (9-3) 0 0 0 0 0 Fauquier (10-2) 12 9 0 7 28
