James Patsos, a junior forward, converted two free throws with 39 seconds remaining in overtime to secure Catholic University (3-2) a 90-88 victory over Alfred University in the championship game of the Charity Cage Classic in Alfred, N.Y., last night.

Ken Wills scored 23 points for the Cardinals, to go with his 27 in Friday night's 85-73 win over Western Connecticut, and was named the tournament MVP. Kevin Morrison, 16 points and 10 rebounds, against Alfred, was named to the all-tournament team.

Newport News 78, Marymount 73: Keith West scored 26 points and Tony Webb 22 to lead Newport News Apprentice past its Arlington guests in Newport News, Va.

Newport News Apprentice (2-5) trailed, 36-29, at intermission but outscored Marymount 13-2 to open the second half and stayed ahead.

Pierre Gardner led Marymount (4-2) with 17 points.

Gallaudet 81, Penn State-Harrisburg 74: Brian Bippus had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Mike Stultz had 18 of his 20 points in the second half as Gallaudet (2-4) overcame a 30-29 deficit to win the consolation game of the Bridgewater/Dayton Jaycees Invitational in Bridgewater, Va. Harrisburg is 2-5.

Morgan St. 71, Bowie St. 63: Troy Brown scored 21 points to lead the Bears (4-0) over Bulldogs (2-5) in Baltimore. Michael Sinclair led the Bulldogs with 17 points followed by Bobby Pugh with 13 points.

Mont-Rock. 87, Charles 66: Jeff Burdette scored 18 points to lead Montgomery to victory at Charles County.

James Madison 53, Kent St. 51: Thom Brand's six-foot jumper with 8:05 remaining put James Madison in front for good and the Dukes hung on in Harrisonburg, Va.

The Colonial Athletic Association club won for the first time in four outings. Kent State, of the Mid-American Conference, is 2-2.
