DETROIT, DEC. 19 -- Scott Young and Scott Fusco scored two goals each tonight to lead the U.S. Olympic Team to a 5-2 victory over the Soviet Selects.
The Americans, 5-1 in the eight-game series, scored four second-period power-play goals to overcome a 2-0 deficit before a crowd of 19,366, largest of the series.
Young, a former Boston University defenseman, scored his first two goals of the series, and has 10 in pre-Olympic competition. Craig Janney scored the other Team USA goal, and goalie Mike Richter stopped 25 shots.
With the USA on a four-on-three power play, Fusco tied the score, 2-2, at 10:58 of the second period, converting Corey Millen's passout. Young scored at 18:43 and 19:50 on passes from Tony Granato.
Fusco made it 5-2 when he tipped Lane MacDonald's shot at 3:22 of the third period.
Viatcheslav Lavrov gave the Soviets a 1-0 lead on a power-play goal at 8:45 of the first period, and made it 2-0 with both teams shorthanded, 30 seconds into the second period.
Janney began the comeback at 5:12 of the second period on a power play, taking a pass from Kevin Stevens and beating goalie Aleksander Tyznyh with Millen screening.
The series continues Sunday at Indianapolis and Tuesday at Lake Placid, N.Y.
