New England Patriots -- Free agent TE Russ Francis has been signed to a one-year contract by the Patriots, the team with whom he began his NFL career 12 years ago. Francis, waived Dec. 16 by San Francisco after five seasons with the 49ers, was signed to a contract through the end of next season, Patriots officials said. Terms were not disclosed.
