The Mount Vernon tournament helps tip off area high school holiday basketball activities tonight with two games, the first beginning at 7.

The IAABO girls tournament at Prince George's Community College and the Bullis boys tournament also begin today.

In the first two of many out-of-town events, Marshall travels to Petersburg, Va., to play in the Fort Lee tournament and Coolidge plays in the 29-team Las Vegas Holiday Prep Classic. Coolidge is considered the tournament favorite.

At Mount Vernon, Seneca Valley plays Eastern at 7, followed by Mount Vernon-Wilson.

The tournament continues Monday with West Potomac playing Mackin and West Springfield facing Oxon Hill.

At PGCC, unbeaten Friendly faces Paint Branch at 2, LaReine meets Mount Hebron at 4, Seton plays Coolidge at 6 and Largo takes on Springbrook at 8.

At Bullis, it's Georgetown Prep-Ryken at 2, Boys Latin-Bullis at 5, Maret-Jewish Day at 7 and Fordham Prep-Good Counsel at 9.

At the Fort Lee tournament, which involves eight teams from Virginia, Marshall plays Petersburg at 3.

At Las Vegas, Coolidge plays University High of Honolulu in its first-round game at 1:30 p.m.

Holiday basketball tournaments continue for boys and girls through next Wednesday.
