George Washington women's basketball team took full advantage of the three-point play yesterday to rout Rhode Island, 73-37, in an Atlantic 10 women's basketball game at Rhode Island.
George Washington (7-4 overall and 1-1 in the Atlantic 10 conference) took a 7-0 lead with a three-point play by junior Tracey Earley. Later in the first half, another three-point play, this time by Kas Allen (16 points and seven rebounds), gave the Colonials a 23-8 lead with 5:36 remaining in the half.
After leading by 31-10 at the intermission, George Washington outscored the Rams (1-7, 0-1) 18-8 in the opening 10 minutes of the second half to establish a 47-18 lead with 9:40 remaining.
Maine 92, Navy 55:
The University of Maine (6-3), led by senior Elizabeth Coffin with 28 points and freshman Rachel Bouchard with 23 points and 16 rebounds, took a 49-21 halftime lead over Navy (5-4).
George Mason 74, Central Florida 71:
Leading scorer Veronica Holland led the Patriots to victory by scoring 16 points and pulling in five rebounds in the final round of the University of Central Florida Holiday Classic.
