Guard Cindy Baruch scored 16 of her team-high 18 points in the second half to lead George Mason over American, 60-56, at the Patriot Center.

The Patriots (11-5, 3-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association) led by 28-26 at halftime and never trailed again as they shot 55 percent (13 of 24) from the field in the second half. The Eagles (6-10, 3-3) were led by forward Beth Shearer's 22 points.

Rutgers 85, Maryland 83:

Sue Wicks scored 25 points and Vicky Picott 22 as the Knights (13-3) won at home. It was the fifth straight win for the Knights. The Terrapins (13-4) were led by Lisa Brown with 24 points and Christy Winters with 21. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Maryland.

Catholic 63, York College (Pa.) 46:

Junior guard Tracey Cahill scored 12 points and Connie Hanlon had 10 points and a game-high 18 rebounds as the visiting Cardinals (11-1) defeated the Spartans. Jamie Floyd paced the Spartans (6-5) with 22 points.

Navy 57, Kutztown 51:

The Midshipmen rolled to their third straight victory on the inside scoring of Connie James (23 points) to improve to 11-7. Kutztown, which was led by Patti Grover's 16 points, dropped to 7-7.

Syracuse 67, Georgetown 53:

The Orangewomen (13-5, 6-2 Big East), led by Tonya Hendrix's 12 points and 16 rebounds, defeated the Hoyas (5-12, 2-6) at McDonough Arena. Beth Knight led the Hoyas with 15 points.

Virginia 81, James Madison 69:

Dawn Bryant (13 rebounds) led a balanced attack with 18 points as the No. 6 Cavaliers beat the No. 14 Dukes.

Virginia (16-1) led by 49-37 at intermission, hitting 18 of 37 shots from the floor for 48.6 percent. For the game, Virginia made 28 of 68 for 41.2 percent and held the Dukes (14-2) to 39.4 percent (28 of 71).

Sydney Beasley led James Madison with 21 points and 10 rebounds.
