WINSTON-SALEM, N.C., MARCH 2 -- Mel Kennedy scored 29 points, including a three-point play in the second overtime, as Virginia took a 69-67 Atlantic Coast Conference victory over Wake Forest tonight.

Kennedy scored on an offensive rebound and a free throw to give the Cavaliers a 65-64 lead with less than two minutes left in the game.

Richard Morgan, who finished with 13 points, made two 18-foot jumpers to increase Virginia's lead to 69-64, but Wake Forest pulled within 69-67 on Antonio Johnson's three-point shot with about a minute left.

Wake Forest had the ball with eight seconds left, but Johnson missed a three-point shot.

The Cavaliers led, 33-24, at halftime and built an 11-point lead in the second half, but Virginia had to rally from a four-point deficit in the final six minutes of regulation. Virginia led, 41-30, with 17 minutes left, but the Demon Deacons then outscored the Cavaliers, 15-4.

Wake Forest (10-16, 3-10) held a 53-49 lead before Kennedy scored seven of the Cavalier's next nine points to give Virginia a 58-56 lead with 1:22 left in regulation.

Bill Batts scored to give Virginia (13-16, 5-8) a 60-57 lead with 26 seconds but Sam Ivy tied the game at 60 with a three-point play with 10 seconds left.

The score was tied again at the end of the first overtime at 62.
