NEWPORT NEWS, MAY 26 -- Lake Braddock won only one event, a record-breaking 3,200-meter relay -- but the Lady Bruins won the VHSL Group AAA girls' track meet today.
They finished the two-day meet with 36 points to 34 for Hampton, 28 for T.C. Williams, 27 for Phoebus and 25 3/4 for Cave Spring.
Lake Braddock's Carey Foor, Kerry Newberry, Heather Schalber and Angel Carbone did the 3,200 meters in 9:31.6, bettering the old record of 9:32.45 set by another Lake Braddock team last year.
Leah Moore added depth for Lake Braddock with a second in the triple jump, a fourth in the long jump and a fifth in the 100-meter high hurdles.
Heritage won the Group AAA boys' title with 46 points to 40 for T.C. Williams. Hurdler Dennis Toole of Gar-Field took the highs in 14.03 and the intermediates in 37.15.
T.C. Williams' 3,200-meter relay team set the only boys record. Alain Koukoui, Maxwell Massaquoi, Troy McNeil and Jesse Gipson covered the distance in 7:48.6, breaking the mark of 7:52.56 set by T.C. Williams last year.
