BALTIMORE, MAY 29 -- Freddy Thompson scored on a diving header with 7:03 left in the fourth quarter tonight and the Baltimore Blast went on to a 7-4 victory over the San Diego Sockers and a 1-0 lead in their Major Indoor Soccer League championship series.
Thompson headed in a cross-field pass from Domenick Mobilio to complete a three-on-two break and snap a 4-4 tie.
The best-of-seven series will resume here Thursday night.
All of Baltimore's goals came in the second half as it overcame a 3-0 halftime deficit. Victor Nogueira was in the San Diego goal for five of the Blast scores. He made 12 saves.
San Diego pulled Nogueira in the closing minutes, but Baltimore clinched the victory with empty-net goals by Carl Valentine and Angelo Panzetta.
The Sockers carried a 3-0 lead into halftime on the strength of first-period goals by Bryan Quinn and Wes Wade and a second-period tally by Waad Hirmuz.
Baltimore tied the game early in the third period when Mark Mettrick, Paul Dougherty and Rusty Troy scored in a 1:58 span.
After San Diego's Paul Wright and the Blast's Mobilio traded goals, Thompson completed the comeback with his fourth playoff goal.
