Quarter Horses -- Trainer Jack Brooks, led by 3-year-old colt Special Project, scored a rare sweep of the top four places yesterday in the $246,600 Kansas Derby at Ruidoso (N.M.) Downs. Following Special Project across the finish line of the 400-yard sprint were Sweet N Special, Rockin Alene and Strawberry Silk.
Special Project, who sprinted the distance in a Kansas Derby-record 19.43 seconds, earned $101,329.54 for owners Lindsey Burbank and John Douglas of Leesburg, Fla. BOATING
Hydroplaning -- Chip Hanauer in the Miss Circus Circus easily beat Tom D'Eath aboard Miss Budweiser to win the Budweiser Regatta at Miami Marine Stadium.

Track and Field -- Peter Ogilvie has erased Ben Johnson's name from another record book.
After spending a week in bed with the flu, Ogilvie ran a 10.46-second 100-meter dash Saturday at the British Columbia high school track and field championships in Vancouver, erasing Johnson's 10.55-second Canadian high school record set in 1981.
Ogilvie also set a provincial record in the 200 -- 21.51 -- and was named the outstanding male performer.
