The Frederick Keys got seven runs on six hits in the eighth inning to rally past the visiting Durham Bulls, 10-4, in a Carolina League game last night at Harry Grove Stadium in Frederick, Md.
The Keys' Todd Stephan (4-2) picked up the win after relieving starter Chuck Ricci in the eighth. Stephan entered with a 3-2 lead and runners on first and second. He loaded the bases and walked in two runs before pitching his way out.
The Keys' bats came to life in the eighth, as Tim Holland, Roy Gilbert and Rickey Gutierrez each had a triple.
Holland began the barrage with a two-run triple and was brought in on Keith Kessinger's suicide squeeze. Gilbert brought in Kessinger and scored on Gutierrez's hit. Gutierrez scored on an error before Tyrone Kingwood hit his second single of the night for the final run.
Spirits 6, Cannons 4: Gary Scott doubled in a run in a three-run fifth inning as Winston-Salem won at home.
Scott had three hits in the game and drove in three runs to give him 42 RBI this season. The Spirits added two runs in the eighth off Cannons reliever Art Canestro.
