Houston Oilers -- Signed two-time Pro Bowl RB Mike Rozier, one-year renewal; other terms not announced. He was a holdout last season before signing for $600,000 and, after early season injury, produced 301 yards on 88 carries.

San Diego Chargers -- Signed five-year Chargers RB Tim Spencer as a free agent.


Cincinnati -- Derek Brower, a Syracuse U. basketball forward 1984-88, pleaded guilty in federal court to interstate travel for drug dealing; he was arrested in a motel room with cocaine last November. Free on bond until sentencing, he faces up to five years' prison and a $250,000 fine.


Mid-American Conference -- Named as its commissioner Karl Benson, the NCAA's director of championships.

Nicholls State -- Accepted membership in the Southland Conference beginning 1991-92; Texas-San Antonio did so last week.

Temple -- Named Charlene Curtis women's basketball coach; she coached Radford past six seasons (121-53).


Dallas Mavericks -- Hired Bob Zuffelato off Minnesota Timberwolves staff to assist Coach Richie Adubato.

Erie Wave (WBL) -- Signed G Igors Miglinieks and F Karlis Muiznieks of Latvia.


Baseball -- Major League Scouting Bureau has tryouts 10 a.m-2 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg; players age 16-22. Registration, 9:45 a.m.

Rugby -- Krista McFarren of Silver Spring was named to the national women's team.

Squash -- Blair Clark (McLean) won the under-16 national title in Cincinnati. Stephanie Clark (McLean) was co-captain of Harvard women who won team title.
