Michel scored his fourth World Cup goal and set up another as Spain beat Belgium, 2-1, yesterday in Verona to clinch the top spot in the World Cup's Group E.

Spain will play Yugoslavia Tuesday in Verona in the second round.

Michel converted a penalty kick in the 27th minute, and Alberto Gorriz headed in Michel's free kick in the 39th minute. Belgium's Patrick Vervoort scored on a free kick through the defensive wall in the 30th minute.

Belgium had an outstanding opportunity to tie it in the 60th minute, but playmaker Enzo Scifo put his penalty shot off the crossbar.

A tie would have given the Belgians first place in the group, but goalie Andoni Zubuzarreta was outstanding in holding them off.

Spain won Group E with five points, with Belgium taking second place with four points.

Uruguay 1, South Korea 0:In Udine, replacement forward Daniel Fonseca scored on a header in the final seconds to lift Uruguay into the second round.

South Korea contained Uruguay's sputtering attack until the dying seconds, when Fonseca rose high to head home a free kick by Alfonso Dominguez.

A tie would have eliminated Uruguay, which got its first World Cup win since 1970.
