MOVES: Outfielder Chili Davis (.272, 10 homers), who went on the 15-day disabled list yesterday, is the 11th Angel out with injuries this season. He has a sore back; it's only the second disability of his career and first since 1982. Coming up is catcher Ron Tingley, 31, a veteran minor-leaguer hitting .267 for Edmonton. The Angels transferred pitcher Greg Minton from the 15-day DL to the 21-day list. . . .
The Indians recalled Rod Nichols from Colorado Springs and tonight will make him their 10th starting pitcher this season. Their latest failure to fit in as No. 5 starter is Al Nipper, whose new knuckleball was found wanting. He must decide today if he'll go to Colorado Springs or become a free agent. The Indians want to activate reliever Steve Olin tonight. . . .
The Braves activated infielder Mark Lemke (.171) from the 21-day DL and sent infielder Alexis Infante to Richmond. . . . Left-hander Dennis Powell (0-2) accepted demotion to the Brewers' farm at Denver.
AILING: Lance McCullers, the right-handed reliever the Tigers got from the Yankees, was admitted to Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit after tests found a blood clot in the artery of his right shoulder. Doctors say it should disolve with treatment, but he can't throw for about a month. He's 2-0 with a 3.02 ERA.
