It will be the North against the South in the 44th Carolina League All-Star Game tonight at Prince William County Stadium.

North Manager Wally Moon of the first-half division winner, Frederick, will have six of his Keys and five Cannons to help battle the visiting South, managed by Kinston's Brian Graham, who will bring nine of his Indians.

The North will be led by Ricky Gutierrez (Frederick), Russ Davis (Prince William), Frank Seminara (Prince William, 11-4, 1.38 ERA), Zachary Kerr (Frederick, 11-5, 2.85) and Todd Stephan (Frederick, 5-2, 1.89). Gutierrez, the Baltimore Orioles' second pick in the June 1988 draft, will start at shortstop. "Gutierrez has progressed daily," Moon said.

Davis, the New York Yankees' 29th-round pick in the '88 draft, came to the Cannons better known for his defensive skills, after leading the New York-Penn League in double plays by a third baseman. He has 82 hits in 90 games, 37 for extra bases, with 25 doubles, 3 triples and 9 home runs.

"It's a great honor being selected to an all-star team in pro ball," said Davis. "This is my third year playing professionally and I think that I am starting to mature as a player."

Seminara, the Yankees' 12th-round pick out of Columbia University in the '88 free agent draft, is having his best season. "Being selected to the all-star team is an honor," he said. "Most of the voting is done by your peers, so that makes it something special."

The South features Kinston outfielder Ken Ramos, who leads the league with a .345 average. A former Nebraska Cornhusker and All-Big Eight player, he was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Cleveland Indians in '89.

In 70 games he has produced 82 hits, 14 doubles, 4 triples and scored 46 runs.

Winston-Salem third baseman Gary Scott, who attended Villanova where he was a freshman all-American in 1987, Big East player of the year in 1989 and second team all-American, has 102 hits and 64 RBI in 93 games.

Winston-Salem first baseman Elvin Paulino was recommended by major leaguer Nino Espinosa and signed as a free agent by the Chicago Cubs in 1986. He leads the league with 12 home runs, and has 19 doubles, 55 RBI.

Nolan Lane, the Indians' 14th selection in the June '89 draft, will start in the outfield. He has 81 hits in 86 games, including 26 for extra bases.
