Sherman Obando tripled to key a two-run fourth inning that helped the Cannons to a 4-2 victory over Peninsula in front of 4,247 at Prince William County Stadium last night.
Prince William (13-13) extended its winning streak to four and moved into first place in the Northern Division second-half standings.
Tied at 1 after three innings, the Cannons strung together three hits in the fourth. J.T. Snow singled to left before Obando tripled to right for a 2-1 lead. Russ Davis singled to left to make it 3-1.
Peninsula (13-15) rallied in the sixth when Cannons starter Art Canestro began to lose control. He gave up one run on three hits that cut Prince William's lead to 3-2. Reliever Curtis Ralph came on to get the Cannons out of a tough spot.
Snow, batting .242, homered in the sixth for the final score.
Canestro (6-6) went five-plus innings, giving up two runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out two.
Mike Gardella got a save for pitching one inning in which he gave up one hit and two walks.
In the third, Prince William's Mauricio Zazueta tripled to the right field wall and scored on Paul Oster's groundout.
