Light Flyweight -- Unbeaten Humberto Gonzalez retained his World Boxing Council championship Monday night in Inglewood, Calif., stopping Lim Jung Keun of South Korea in the fifth round of their scheduled 12-round fight.

Challenger Baseball -- Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Dr. Creighton J. Hale accepted a $10,000 check from the American Orthotic and Prosthetic Association on behalf of the Little League Challenger Division at the Russell Senate Office Building. The Challenger Division, which consists of 10,000 mentally and physically disabled area children, played an eight-game season beginning in April. The AOPA check came from the proceeds of a celebrity golf tournament played in Scottsdale, Ariz. Among those in attendance yesterday were Michael Pobat and Cathy Leitch, the president and vice president of the Challenger Division, and six Challenger players who received autographed baseballs from Kerry.
