SANDERS: Deion Sanders is on the verge of signing a contract with the Yankees that would delay his return to the NFL's Falcons until October, the Atlanta Journal reported. The newspaper quoted sources as saying the contract will pay Sanders a base salary of $1 million for 1991, plus as much as $1 million in incentives.
OUCH: Yankees 1B Don Mattingly was placed on the DL with an ailing back. George Steinbrenner reportedly ordered the move. "If he's out the rest of the season, it's not going to make a difference," Steinbrenner was quoted as saying in USA Today.
