Larry Silveira tamed the TPC course at Southwind with a record 9-under-par 62 to take a three-stroke lead after the first round of the St. Jude Classic in Memphis.
He made the turn at 4-under 31, then birdied four holes in five beginning on No. 2. Doug Tewell and Hubert Green shot 63s last year.

Ku, who had missed the cut in her last three tournaments, shot nine birdies and one bogey to break the mark of 65 held by Marta Figueras-Dotti and Laurie Rinker. Donna Martz of Broadway used five birdies in a 4 and 3 victory over three-time champion Jane Mack of Richmond in the semifinals of the 62nd Virginia Women's Amateur in Hot Springs.
Martz earned a berth in today's 18-hole championship against two-time winner Kay Schiefelbein of Alexandria, who rallied from 2-down to oust medalist Liz Rogers of Virginia Beach.
